2010 Annual Meeting
The wafting smells of buckwheat pancakes and seasoned
sausage drew in a crowd of nearly 400 to the 2010 Annual
Meeting of Members in May. Boasting a new trimmed-down
format, members could venture to meet their trustees, pick
up their free dogwood tree seedlings from our arborist
and find out what is happening with the new automated
metering infrustructure that is scheduled to launch in July!
New this year were the Energy Efficiency Display units from
the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives. Standing eight feet
tall and spanning 50 feet, the interactive display showed
members how to recognize energy “hogs” in their homes.
Roger Keller, Energy Advisor, was on hand to talk with
members eager to learn about what could be done to lower
their energy bills.
Kids and adults the same were entertained by Mackee the
Balloon Guy as he twisted balloons in the likes of leashed
pups, swords and penguins! The renowned caricature artists
were back, drawing whimsical look-a-likes in the blink of
an eye. But nothing could top the pancake fl ipping duo from
Chris Cakes! Members were on their toes as they shuffled
side to side to catch their “breakfast” hot off the griddle!
As the morning swept by
harmonic sounds and toe tapping
dancing from the Mt. Gilead
High School show choir filled
the room and members were
reminded to fill out their surveys
for one of ten $50 electric credits!
To end the day, a cooperative
business meeting was held at
11:30 a.m. Bill Roberts, Buckeye
Power VP Finance/CFO, spoke
to the members regarding
generation and transmission
rates that effect the cooperative’s
rates. Jerry Lauer, president/CEO
of Consolidated Electric, also
spoke of the hardships that
are being felt as a result of the
economy and reassured members
that the cooperative will do all
it can to keep rates affordable
and Consolidated Electric
Board President Richard Carter
introduced newly elected board
trustees.
