Consolidated Electric CIO Semi-finalist for TechColumbus
Executive of the Year
Mount Gilead , OH – Doug Payauys , VP of Information Systems/CIO of Consolidated Electric Cooperative Inc. , has been named as a semi-finalist in the Executive of the Year category in this year’s TechColumbus Innovation Awards. Presented by TechColumbus, t he annual Innovation Awards recognize outstanding achievements in technology leadership and innovation. From hundreds of entries, eight outstanding leaders who exemplify the best in technology leadership and innovation in 2010 will be honored during the Innovation Awards ceremony on February 3, 2011.
Payauys’ innovations this past year were centered on two major initiatives: Lead and coordinate the Consolidated Electric Cooperative team to be the first Ohio recipient named to receive a portion of available $7 billion set aside by federal government from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to enhance broadband infrastructure nationwide. He served as an instrumental lead in the formation and strategic development of Delaware Area Super Highway (DASH). DASH is a joint effort of Delaware County, Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Grady Memorial Hospital and City of Delaware to develop fiber optic infrastructure in Greater Delaware area and was designed to create economic development opportunities for Delaware area. “ Columbus’ growth north through Delaware and Morrow Counties has been hindered by the lack of high speed broadband Internet, much like the lack of electricity that got Consolidated Electric started 75 years ago. Our goal is to expand our fiber network throughout the region in an open access model that will provide the backbone for last-mile Internet to businesses and residences,” states Payauys
